In common parlance, plastic surgery is often equated with aesthetic or cosmetic surgery. Aesthetic surgery, along with many other areas, is only one aspect of the overall spectrum of plastic surgery. In contrast to other medical subjects, which are often related to organs or systems, plastic surgery is characterized by special techniques and skills that are applied to a wide variety of body regions to solve very different problems.

Privatdozent Dr. medical habil. Seyed Arash Alawi

Prof. Alawi is an experienced and renowned specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, who is characterized by his honest and demanding way of working. With many years of experience in the largest centers for plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in Germany, he is one of the leading surgeons in his field in Europe and is a member of renowned medical societies.

dr Alawi has had an impressive and varied career. He studied human medicine at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin and completed study visits to the Harvard Medical School, the University Hospital Zurich and West Yorkshire. In 2014 he passed the state examination and received his license to practice medicine. He successfully completed his doctoral thesis with the grade "Magna cum laude" on the topic "Optical coherence tomography for preoperative evaluation in non-melanoma skin tumors".

dr Alawi started his professional career in the clinic for plastic surgery, hand and burn surgery at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen. He then continued his training in the Clinic for Plastic, Aesthetic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery at the Hannover Medical School. There he acquired an additional qualification in emergency medicine. He then worked in the Clinic for Plastic and Hand Surgery at the University Clinic in Freiburg and expanded his spectrum. There he also passed the exam to become a European specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and received specialist recognition. Most recently, he worked in plastic and aesthetic surgery at the University Center for Orthopaedics, Trauma & Plastic Surgery at the Carl Gustav Carus University Clinic in Dresden.

dr Alawi completed his habilitation in plastic and aesthetic surgery at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, Technical University of Dresden, gaining the Venia Legendi with the title designation and the license to teach as a private lecturer. He also earned the additional qualification in hand surgery from the Saxon State Medical Association and was appointed senior physician at the University Center for Orthopaedics, Trauma & Plastic Surgery, Department of Plastic and Hand Surgery, University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, Technical University of Dresden. His scientific focus is on bionic prosthesis fittings, severe hand injuries and extremity amputations. dr Alawi also works as a scientific reviewer for various scientific journals.
